Nebraska Has Expanded Phase 1B COVID-19 Vaccine to Those Age 65+

If you qualify and are interested in receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, you are encouraged to use your local health department’s electronic sign-up.

As Phase 1A nears a close (i.e., healthcare workers and long-term care facility residents), the health departments throughout the state are preparing for vaccine distribution to Phase 1B: people older than 65 and specified groups of essential workers. For information about what essential workers are eligible in Phase 1B, please refer to the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services website at dhhs.ne.gov, which explains all phases and the populations in each group.

If you meet the Phase 1B criteria, you should sign up with your local health department if you are interested in receiving the vaccine. This is a large population, so the state estimates that it will take four months to complete Phase 1B vaccinations. State and health department staff thank everyone for their patience as they continue to work diligently to distribute vaccines as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Covid-19

The best source for information about Covid-19 is the NE Department of Health and Human Services website dhhs.ne.gov/pages/Coronavirus.aspx. The link to self-report if you are a returning traveler or have had potential contact with someone that has tested positive for Covid-19 is found there. Another source for residents of Madison, Stanton, Burt or Cuming counties is our local Elkhorn Logan Valley Public Health Department at elvphd.org or 402-529-2233. Covid-19 is a respiratory virus. Symptoms and treatment are very similar to the respiratory influenza virus. On the NE DHHS website, there is a list of ways to protect yourself and others. The most important is to practice good hand washing! If you have questions about needing to be seen in the ER or in the clinic you can call the hospital at 402-372-2404. The number to the clinic Mon-Fri during business hours is 402-372-2477. We ask that you help us protect both our staff and patients by calling prior to coming in. We have established guidelines to follow and will ask you for information over the phone that will give us a good idea of your level of risk and need to be treated.
